"A Little snail wants to fly..."
Based on the story of Hildegard Richlick
Illustrations by Eve Wiemer
In a little garden there lived a little snail. The garden was beautiful.
There were many lovely flowers in summer.
One evening, a little snail saw a little bird looking for some food for her chicks.
The little snail wished that she could also fly.
The little snail had no wings. She could only move slowly and had to carry her house.
The little snail envied that the little bird. Birds can fly and see the world.
The little snail sighed because she wanted to see the world, too.
All of sudden the little snail realised that the leaf under her was lifted by a gentle breeze. The next moment they were in the air!
The little snail saw all of what she heard previously from the birds. The little snail was very happy.
But what a shock! It suddenly began to fall. The little snail was scared. She landed on a big lake.
Fishes looked inquisitively at the little snail and leaf. It was wonderful to watch them. A duck quacked at her nest on the shore. The little snail enjoyed herself.
Suddenly the little snail noticed something terrible on the shore. It was a toad.
What a strange creature! The little snail had never seen it before.
The toad jumped into the water and swam. Then he began to croak. How awful!
The little snail was horrified began to tremble all over her body.
The little snail knew neither what happened nor where she was.
All of sudden the little snail fell off from the leaf. She realised that she was in her garden.
It was a beautiful morning. It was all dream! The little snail made her way to a leaf of salad.
She stretched and stretched on her bed. She thought that she would remain a snail and never be away from her garden.
